Close tabs without losing them, to free memory
Most open tabs are tabs you might need later. Stowing saves them and closes them, so the browser is lighter and nothing is lost.
Coming soon to the Chrome Web StoreHow
- On a tab you are done with for now, press Alt+Shift+X, or right-click the page and choose "Stow this tab".
- To clear a whole window, right-click the Stowback button and choose "Stow this window", or "Stow the other tabs in this window" to keep only the one in front.
- Your stowed tabs wait in Saved. Open them all, one group, or one tab.
What you get
- Tabs stowed one at a time collect in one snapshot per day, named "Stowed tabs" and the date.
- A window, or the other tabs of one, becomes a snapshot of its own, with its tab groups.
- A link can be stowed without opening it: right-click it and choose "Stow this link for later".
- Every stow can be undone with Alt+Shift+Z: the tabs come back in their window.
- When the last tab of the last window is stowed, a new tab is left open, so the browser never closes.
Limits worth knowing
- Pinned tabs and tabs of sites on your never-save list are not closed by a stow, so nothing is lost.
- What you had typed into a page and where you had scrolled to are not saved.
- Stowing a workspace’s window closes the workspace, which keeps its tabs.
This is part of the free plan. See pricing.
