Stowback privacy policy

What this covers

Stowback is a browser extension made by TheSocialForks ("we"). This policy explains what the extension, and the pages that sell it, do with your data.

It covers Stowback only. The TheSocialForks platform has its own policy at thesocialforks.com/privacy.

The short version

  • The extension cannot read or change the pages you visit. It sees which tabs are open, their titles and their addresses.
  • What it saves stays on your device. We do not receive it. The only server the extension talks to checks license keys, and saved tabs are never sent to it.
  • There are no ads and no tracking in the extension. Private windows are never saved.

What the extension reads

For every ordinary window that is open, the extension reads the list of its tabs: each tab's title and address, whether it is pinned, which tab group it is in, and the group's name and colour. It reads this as tabs change, so that a window that is closed or a browser that crashes can be brought back, and when you press Save.

When you close a tab, its title and address are kept in a list of the last 100 closed tabs, so you can reopen it. Switching the timeline off in Settings stops this.

It does not read the content of any page, what you type, your passwords or your cookies, and it has no permission that would let it. Private (incognito) windows are never read, and sites you put on the never-save list in Settings are left out of everything it keeps.

Where your data is kept

Snapshots, workspaces, the timeline, the list of closed tabs and settings are stored in your browser, on your device. You can delete any of them in the panel, clear the timeline or switch it off in Settings, and removing the extension removes all of it.

A backup file is written only when you ask for one, or once a day if you switch on automatic backup. It is saved on your own device, in your Downloads folder. We never receive it. If that folder is synced by a service you use, that service handles the file under its own terms.

Network requests the extension makes

The extension makes only this request:

  1. License check. If you activate a license key, the key and a label for your browser (such as "Chrome on macOS") are sent to our server at api.thesocialforks.com to confirm it is valid. This is repeated about once a day. People who never activate a key never contact it.

The titles and addresses of your tabs are never sent to us or to any third party by the extension. When a saved tab is opened again, your browser requests that page from its site, as it would if you had opened it yourself.

Buying Pro

Purchases are paid through Razorpay, our payment processor, which collects your payment details and the phone number and email address you enter at checkout under its own privacy policy. In our Razorpay account we can see the record of your purchase: your email address and phone number, what you bought, the amount, the date, and the payment method with the last four digits of a card. We use that record to answer support requests, give refunds, and meet tax and accounting duties, and keep it for as long as those duties require. We never see or store your full card number.

Your license

When you pay, our server creates your license key. For each license it stores:

  • the key and the plan you bought;
  • Razorpay's reference for the purchase (a payment or subscription ID), which it uses to ask Razorpay whether the purchase is still in force;
  • for each browser you activate the key on, a label such as "Chrome on MacIntel" and the date.

It does not store your name, email address, phone number or card details with the license, and nothing you save ever reaches it. A license record is kept for as long as the license exists. You can free the browsers a key is active on yourself, on the manage page.

Prices by location

To show prices in your currency, our server looks up the country of your internet address when you open the pricing or the checkout. It uses the geolocation service ip-api.com, which receives the address for that lookup. The answer decides between rupees and US dollars. It is held in memory for a few hours and is not stored with your license.

These pages

The pages under thesocialforks.com/extensions/stowback are part of the TheSocialForks website, and its cookie policy applies to them. Razorpay's checkout, which opens on top of the buy page, sets its own cookies. Like any web server, ours records the internet address, time and address of each request in its access logs for a limited time, as described in the main policy.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, by writing to the address below. We answer within 30 days. Deleting a license record ends that license. We may have to keep purchase records that tax law requires.

How information about your tabs is used

What Stowback reads about your open tabs, their titles and addresses, is used only to give you the features described here. It is not sold, not passed to anyone else, not used for advertising, and not used to judge creditworthiness or for lending.
